Lithuania transfers new batch of military aid to Ukraine
At the end of last week, Lithuania sent a new shipment of military equipment to Ukraine, which included drones, thermal imaging cameras, and telescopic forklifts, as stated by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
The Ministry reports that the aid package includes Lithuanian-made drones, thermal vision equipment, and five-ton telescopic lifters for Ukrainian forces.
"We can't slow down our support for Ukraine because by ensuring Ukraine's security, we're also thinking about our own security. We've also removed red tape, so support will now be able to reach Ukraine even more quickly," said Lithuania's Minister of National Defense DovilÄ— Å akalienÄ—.
This year, Lithuania intends to prioritize support for Ukraine in several areas, as noted by the Ministry of Defense. These priorities include providing aid for air defense systems, ammunition, drones, anti-drone defense, and financial support for Ukraine's domestic defense industry, particularly for weapons produced within the country.
The Ministry estimated that since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Lithuania has supplied over $864 million worth of military aid to Ukraine. They also pointed out that Lithuania's overall support for Ukraine has been ongoing for some time and has surpassed $1.7 billion.
Lithuania's support for Ukraine
By the end of 2024, it was disclosed that Denmark, France, and Lithuania allocated $170 million for Ukraine's military equipment. The money will be used to produce missiles, drones, and artillery systems. Ultimately, Lithuania said it would send the first installment of money for Ukraine's weapons production.
Lithuania plans to ship 4,500 drones to Ukraine, worth a total of $5.7 million.
