Guitarist John Sykes, who played with bands like Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake, has passed away. He was 65 years old.

The band was already well-known, at which point Sykes participated in the group's farewell tour and performed for their final two albums, "Thunder and Lightning" and "Life."

The band was founded by David Coverdale. Sykes played on the group's album "Slide It In" and later co-wrote some of the band's biggest hits, such as "Still of the Night" and "Is This Love."

Sykes went on to form Blue Murder with Tony Franklin and drummer Carmine Appice, who also paid tribute to Sykes.
