Huge change to Qantas loyalty program revealed
The loyalty program will be offering an extra million seats for sale, including Classic Plus Reward seats, to members across 100 national routes from this week.
Qantas has also beefed up its collaborations with Finnair, Air France, KLM and Iberia in the premium cabins, and with the entire Hawaiian Airlines network to give its members an extra million seats.
Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glaze said Qantas Frequent Flyer has undergone substantial growth over the past 40 years.
“These changes will make it even easier for our members to make bookings for Classic Reward seats and choose from a greater range of destinations and cabins when they fly,” Mr Glance said.
“Classic Plus, which represents a $120 million investment in the program, has been a real game-changer since launching in April last year.”
“Bookings have blown out three times our expectations and over the December break, we've seen an 80 per cent spike in members using their points to travel overseas.”
“We've also launched around 20 sales since Classic Plus was brought in and announced another sale just yesterday, with millions of discounted reward seats up for grabs across all cabins.”
From July, members will also be able to double the number of points earned when flying on Qantas domestic flights.
The earnings cap for tiered members flying in premium cabins will also be lifted.
G'day, Mr Glance said the changes to the loyalty program will give members a crack at getting more bang for their buck when it comes to their travel plans.
“This year, members will be entitled to a four billion point increase, resulting from a points boost for domestic travel and the abolition of the earning cap for tiered members travelling in our premium cabins,” he said.
“This means intel tiers flying domestically in first-class cabins need less flights to get their next reward booking.”
Mr Glance said Jetstar customers will also get in on the good stuff with the upgraded Qantas Frequent Flyers program.
"We're also introducing the lowest reward seat fare in Australia, with Jetstar seats for 7,000 points on all short-haul domestic routes like Sydney to the Gold Coast and Melbourne to Adelaide, helping members get away sooner," he said.
“This is just the start of a bunch of changes to the Jetstar rewards program that'll provide more benefits to members from 2025 on.”
Mr Glance said these changes are the biggest thing to have happened to the program in the past six years.
“From August 2025, the Classic Reward points threshold will go up for the first time since 2019 and secondly since 2004,” he said.
A fair dinkum, a lot's changed in the past six years. These adjustments will make sure we can keep chucking a fair chunk of change into the program to make it even better for the long haul, and continue to boost the numbers of Classic and Classic Plus Reward seats for our members each year.
With several airlines reforming their loyalty schemes lately, we're giving our members as much notice as we can, so they can plan ahead for their upcoming trips.
“Fair dinkum, our fare changes won’t kick in for at least another six months.”
