Autonomous vehicles are one innovation we're quite familiar with.
But, driverless tractors are a completely different ball game, altogether.
You may not immediately associate John Deere, widely recognized for its farming and agricultural equipment, with the Consumer Electronics Show. However, John Deere has been at the forefront of technological innovation in the farm, construction, and heavy machinery sectors.
At the CES 2025 conference, John Deere debuted a new lineup of innovative autonomous vehicles.
We visited the John Deere booth at to explore John Deere's "autonomy journey" first-hand.
John Deere's autonomous 9RX tractor for large-scale farming uses "16 individual cameras arranged in pods to enable a 360-degree view of the field," as the company notes. John Deere claims that its self-driving tractor helps farmers "step away from the machine and focus their time on other crucial tasks." The autonomous vehicles can also contribute to improved safety and help address labor shortages, the company states.
This autonomous 5ML orchard tractor for air blast spraying uses Lidar sensors to navigate and cover denser orchard areas. The 460 P-Tier autonomous dump truck is designed to handle repetitive tasks such as transporting building materials at construction sites like quarries.
The self-driving battery-powered lawn mower can take care of cutting the lawn on its own without an operator. It has cameras installed in front, to the left, to the right, and in the back, which gives it a 360-degree view, suitable for commercial lawn care, according to the company.
