Baseball world mourns Bob Uecker, with Brewers, Christian Yelich, Adam Sandler paying tribute to late sportscaster
Uecker, a baseball player turned broadcaster, turned pop culture phenomenon, was known for his humorous personality, which transcended his following among Brewers fans to make him a celebrated household name.
He was the heartbeat of Wisconsin and a treasured buddy. Bob adored people; his presence lit up every room and he had a knack for making each of us feel like old pals.
In a statement, Uecker's family said that he has been dealing with lung cancer since the start of 2023. The family expressed gratitude for the love and support from people for Uecker, who they described as having "a legacy that will forever be cherished."
"While his accomplishments in the game are impressive, it's the qualities of kindness, humility, and love for family and loved ones that we will hold dear to our hearts," the Uecker family stated.
The post was on Instagram, featuring several photos of Yelich with the late sportscaster, including ones where they were celebrating the Brewers' postseason successes.
There aren't enough words to describe it, but I believe that's the way it should be. To say you were a unique individual is definitely an understatement, the stories you could share, the life you led, and the way you touched people," Yelich wrote in the post. "I always treasured the time we spent together and just being able to hear you talk about your life and all you'd experienced.
I recall you mentioning that no matter the time available, it always feels like too little and that's just as true today. You'd always graciously thank me for our friendship, but the honest truth is the joy was always mine. I'll miss you, friend.
Immediately after the Brewers announced Uecker's passing, his statue in front of American Family Field in Milwaukee became a place of highly veneration.
His appearance in "Major League," in addition to his role in the same movie, increased Uecker's fame to a national level.
By the afternoon, the tribute was steadily increasing, with fans adding flowers, more cans of beer, and other items.

NFL defensive end JJ Watt commented on the Brewers' announcement about the passing of Uecker. Watt was born and raised in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, a suburb just outside of Milwaukee.
He's an absolute legend. You're welcome for all the memories.

Former Brewers pitcher Dan Plesac, a three-time All-Star and a member of the Brewers' Hall of Fame, posted about Uecker on social media, including a pair of photos with the late announcer.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the one and only Bob Uecker," Plesac wrote. "He lived an incredible life and brought joy and laughter to so many people .. he will be deeply missed.
Plesac referenced Uecker's famous Miller Lite commercial by adding "I know for sure he's in the front row upstairs!"
