James Clarkson, from Carlisle in Cumbria, near the Scottish border, found out at the beginning of January that he'd won $7,533,329 in the UK's National Lottery's Christmas Day drawing.

Clarkson noticed his randomly selected numbers -- 16, 19, 22, 24, 27, and 35 -- had been chosen.

When he turned to his girlfriend to show her his winning ticket, she cast a "sleepy glance" in his direction and said, "no, you haven't won" before returning to sleep, the 20-year-old continued in a press release.

Clarkson then phoned his dad to go home and confirm his victory.

At 9 a.m., he called the lottery hotline along with his parents and older brother. Clarkson said who he was and provided the details about his ticket, and was then told that he had indeed won.

"News spread quickly, and we all gathered later at my Grandma's and Grandad's place for a roast beef dinner and some Champagne," he said.

By Monday, Clarkson had gone back to working with his dad.

"I was outside dealing with clogged drains the day after I found out I had won," he stated, saying it was somewhat "unpleasant" although that's how things usually go.

I'm not ready to retire yet," Clarkson said. "I'd like to pursue a career as a heating engineer and see where that takes me.

"I need to have a sense of direction in life, plus Dad wouldn't let me slack off anyway," he said, explaining that his father reminded him that many millionaires continue to work, and it's essential to have a reason to start each day motivated.

Clarkson said, "Some people might think I'm crazy for still working, but I want to, and I'll also get to take some nice breaks."
